Kamedo, a landmark in Tokyo, is a famous shrine with a plum blossom garden. The shrine is dedicated to Michizane Sugawara, a poet and scholar, known as the the god of learning and literature. Although dozens of Japanese artists have produced drawings and prints of Kamedo, Hiroshige's is best known. The woman under the tree appears to be a deep in thought as she writes. She sits on a bench, wearing a yuzen kimono, inspired by her beautiful surroundings.
