| Japan has declared several of their great remaining artisans, craftsmen, and artists, because of their unique contribution to Japanese culture as "Living National Treasures." The objective is to preserve dissapearing crafts such as papermaking, pottery etc. Among these are a few remaining individuals who are master hand papermakers (Haruhiko Tamura, Minoru Ikeda, Sachio Hamada).
